The 7th KYU Grading begins with the familiar Lunge Punch (OI TSUKI) which is followed by the Reverse Punch (GYAKU TSUKI), but now squeezing and the correct breathing rhythm must be applied to these techniques. Basic coordination of body movements in the form of combination work is added. Instead of the usual turn following the reverse punch, you will now move backwards in order to execute the Rising Block with a Reverse Punch (AGE UKE-GYAKU TSUKI). This requires additional skill in balance, achieved by dropping the bodyweight down to a position just below the navel (TANDEN). Hips are to be at a 45 degree angle before sharply withdrawing the blocking arm and thrusting forward with a reverse punch.
