All applicants for Dan Grading are required to have attended and participated fully in a minimum of 2 SKIFSponsored Seminars (International, National or Regional, Events, or Special Training...Tournaments do NOT count)  within the previous twelve months prior to Dan testing. "  Dan candidates and/or those seeking to test for senior Dan grades must show evidence of having trained with other Senior grade SKIF Yudansha...teaching classes in one's Dojo does not constitute additional training.

Step forward into left fudo dachi with gedan barai and execute the following sequence with a kiai on the final attack of each set:

  • 5 chudan oi tsuki (middle lunge punch), then a back leg mawate (turn)

  • 5 chudan sanbon tsuki, shifting to zenkutsu dachi (front stance) on the second punch and back to fudo dachi on the third punch.

Turn into jiyu no gamae (free-style guard) and execute the following sequence with a kiai on the final attach of each set (performing 3 on each side of the body)

  • jodan kizami tsuki (high lead-hand punch), step back and shift the lead leg to the outside 90o with right chudan tate shuto uke (middle vertical knife-hand block), execute chudan gyaku tsuki (middle reverse punch, and reset:

  • jodan kizami tsuki (pivoting the rear foot 45o around behind the front), chudan gyaku tsuki, jodan mawashi geri, jodan uraken uchi, shifting forward, then chudan gyaku tsuki, and withdraw the lead foot with tate shuto uke (vertical knife-hand block); then reset
    Note:  All techniques after the first are in pursuit of an opponent retreating at a 45o angle.

Turn into zenkutsu dachi with gedan barai and execute the following kicking combination in place with a kiai on the final technique of each set:

  • mae geri (front kick), yoko geri (side kick), ushiro geri (back kick), and mawashi geri (round kick); then switch stance and repeat.

Kime waza (focus technique):  Step backward into zenkutsu dachi and execute kizami tsuki (lead-hand punch) or gyaku tsuki (reverse punch) against moving target (examiner's pencil); then switch stance and repeat.  Use appropriate technique for the distance to the target.

Kumite (sparring)

  • Kaeshi ippon kumite (exchange 1-step sparring;  both sides starting in hachiji dachi (natural stance) attacker becomes defender
