Kanazawa
Kancho Seminar
Somers, CT
March 12 & 13, 2005
Jim Shea and Mike Cook
co-sponsored a two day seminar in Somers, Ct with Kanazaw a
Kancho on March 12 and 13, 2005. Approximately 70 people
attendedthe snowy two day seminar from several states, from Maine
to Florida and as far west as New Mexico... and the Montreal and
Quebec regions of Canada. On Friday night, in Holyoke, Mass,
Kanazawa Sensei held Kyu and Dan testing for
approximately 20 people...testing lasted almost 3 hrs. Kancho did
a tremendous job of instructing 4, two hour sessions...stressing
both physical and mental harmony, covering SKIF philosophy and
tenants, Undo (warm -ups), Kihon, Kata and Kumite. An extensive
amount of time was spent in teaching and analyzing the Kata:
Enpi, Unsu, Bassai Dai and Gankaku Sho. Happo Kumite and Sanbon
Kumite were reviewed and well received by everyone. Kancho did an
excellent job of indivualizing his teaching techniques and often
personally assisted individual karate-ka with the correctness of
technique and form. A formal banquet was held Saturday night at
the Somers
Inn with 55 attendees enjoying the camaraderie of Kanazawa
Kancho, Dojo associates, old friends, and in making new and
lasting friendships. The seminar ended on Sunday afternoon with
all participants leaving with a greater understanding of
Karate-Do and understanding the desires of Kancho to promote
"WA" (harmony).
